ROTHFUS OPPOSES TRANSFER OF TERRORISTS

Republican Congressional candidate Keith Rothfus today called on incumbent Democrat Jason Altmire to oppose the transfer of dangerous foreign terrorists from Guantanamo Bay to a state prison in downstate Illinois.

“Very simply, the Obama administration plans to spend $145 million, at a time of sky-high budget deficits, on a move that will threaten our national security. It is no accident that community leaders in other sites proposed as destinations for these detainees have politely but as forcefully as possible declined that honor.

“Theses detainees are not teenage car thieves or mid-level drug dealers. Their very presence on American soil is an incitement to terrorism, and no American community can possibly maintain the level of security found on an American base already tightly guarded against a hostile neighbor.

“This is why the Constitution gives spending authority to Congress: to safeguard both the public purse and public safety against the political impulses of a President eager for approving headlines I urge Jason Altmire to take the lead in opposing this ill-conceived plan.”

Rothfus, 47, is an Edgeworth attorney and the only announced Republican candidate in the Fourth District, which includes part or all of Allegheny, Beaver, Butler, Lawrence, Mercer, and Westmoreland Counties.
